At Kenton Lodge, the arrival of esteemed guests is never treated lightly. Weeks of thoughtful preparation and meticulous planning go into every detail, from carefully choreographed rituals to heartfelt hospitality—each touchpoint reflecting the lodge’s commitment to excellence. After hosting MWB Tim Best last month, the brethren of Kenton Lodge again had the honor of welcoming another distinguished guest for his official visit. This time, RWB Adam Bayer, Kenton’s District Deputy, was received with the same unwavering enthusiasm, warmth, and attention to detail, making last Thursday night yet another shining example of true Kenton hospitality.
Adding to the evening’s grandeur was the presence of Grand Orator WB John Lohrfink, who delivered an inspiring oration entitled, “Living Life to its Fullest and Dying a Good Death through Freemasonry.” His profound message was deeply resonant, contributing significantly to the reflective atmosphere of the gathering.
The lodge was further graced by an impressive assembly of gold-and-purple clad dignitaries from Grand Lodge, including:
- RWB Greg Hinkelman, Junior Grand Warden
- WB Dale Palileo, Grand Lecturer
- WB Eric Young, Senior Grand Deacon
- WB Ian Cawley, Grand Musician
- RWB Blake Presswood, District Deputy for District No. 4
- RWB Richard Nowacki, District Deputy for District No. 5
As customary, the evening commenced with a sumptuous barbecue feast, creating an inviting atmosphere of camaraderie and fellowship enjoyed by brethren and guests alike.
During the stated meeting that followed, the lodge formally received RWB Adam Bayer alongside his fellow Grand Lodge officers and District Deputies. Notably, RWB Bayer was escorted by WB Joey Piazza, who served as marshal. WB Piazza, traveling from Arizona, is always warmly welcomed and his presence deeply appreciated, underscoring the bonds of brotherly affection that define Kenton Lodge.
To honor his esteemed rank, RWB Greg Hinkelman, the highest-ranking Grand Lodge officer present, was offered a seat the East as a mark of respect. Additional visiting brothers were formally introduced by the Senior Deacon, observing lodge tradition.
Among the evening’s critical business were several noteworthy items:
- The unanimous and enthusiastic balloting of Mr. Kevin Johnson to receive the degrees of Masonry at Kenton.
- The reading of petitions from Mr. MJ Gold and Mr. Raul Ramirez for the degrees of Masonry.
- The reading of Brother Joseph Easly’s petition for affiliation, further cementing Kenton’s growing fellowship.
Following the business segment, WB Lohrfink captivated the lodge with his poignant and insightful oration, which was warmly applauded by all present. The lodge has thoughtfully provided a recording of his speech for brothers unable to attend.
In addition to WB Lohrfink’s presentation, the evening featured heartfelt recognitions of brethren who demonstrated notable dedication in their Masonic pursuits. WB Lohrfink received his Bronze Kenton Wings, recognizing his completion of the Basic Proficiency qualification, while Honorable Brother Mike Milford, Kenton’s Senior Warden, earned his Silver Kenton Wings for successfully passing his Intermediate Examination on the Entered Apprentice Degree. Both awards were presented in signature Kenton style, embodying pride, honor, and brotherly affection.
However, the emotional peak of the evening was reserved for honoring RWB Adam Bayer. Acknowledging his extensive contributions and steadfast service during his tenure as District Deputy and recognizing that this was his final official visit to Kenton Lodge, the brethren collectively presented him with a carefully chosen token of their profound gratitude and respect: a beautifully crafted meerschaum calabash pipe.
WB Valan Primus then graciously relinquished the East to RWB Bayer, who took the opportunity to reminisce fondly about his time with Kenton Lodge, expressing heartfelt appreciation for the warmth, respect, and camaraderie he always encountered. In a witty and touching gesture, RWB Bayer, escorted by WB Primus, personally presented tokens of appreciation to each lodge officer, reinforcing the bonds of fraternity.
After the final closing of the lodge under RWB Bayer’s symbolic gavel, the brethren shared a moment of profound reflection and unity as WB Dale Palileo delivered the closing charge. Meanwhile, RWB Adam Bayer and WB Primus moved gracefully around the room, warmly shaking hands and occasionally embracing each brother present, creating an emotionally charged and unforgettable atmosphere.
Following this heartfelt conclusion, the evening continued with a sense of deep fraternity and joyful celebration. Brothers lingered to share cigars and Scotch, amidst further memorable announcements and presentations:
- Mr. Kevin Johnson received the joyful news of his successful ballot to receive the degrees of Masonry.
- Mr. MJ Gold and Mr. Raul Ramirez were warmly updated on the progress of their petitions.
- WB Lohrfink was presented with a distinguished gift—a bottle of Macallan 18-year-old Scotch—along with a thoughtful gift for his wife, demonstrating Kenton’s inclusive hospitality.
Additionally, brethren seized the joyous occasion to celebrate the birthday of WB John Fitzgerald, further underscoring the warmth and fraternity that typifies Kenton Lodge gatherings.
The atmosphere throughout the evening was undeniably charged with quiet yet profound emotion. As brothers embraced, shook hands, and exchanged heartfelt words, it became evident that RWB Bayer’s final official visit marked not just an end, but also a testament to the lasting bonds forged through dedicated service, respect, and brotherly love.
