Kenton Celebrates St. John the Evangelist Day with an End-of-Year Hangout
Posted on December 30, 2017
As the year draws to an end, the members and guests of Kenton Lodge no. 145 celebrated the remaining days of 2017 and ushered WB Sami Aldrete’s ascension to the Oriental Chair by holding a potluck-style end-of-year hangout at the lodge. The event was held to also recognize St. John the Evangelist Day, observed by Masons around the world every December 27th. In Oregon, December 27th is also marked as the official transfer of responsibilities from the previous Worshipful Master to the duly elected Worshipful Master for the ensuing Masonic year.
The attending brothers brought numerous dishes and desserts and was treated to a short presentation about the Holy Saints John by honored Brother Historian Ryan Whittenburg.
As the evening wore on, the meaning of equality in the context of the American and French revolution became one of the highlight topics of discussion. The brethren present also explored opinions and discussions pertaining to patriotism, exploration, and evolution.
All in all, the event was a fantastic way to end the year as the lodge looks forward to an even better 2018.
