From time to time during the year, the Grand Lodge of Oregon opens in ample form in strategic locations around the jurisdiction for the purpose of meeting with local Brothers to listen to their successes and challenges, for brothers to meet the Grand Master and other Grand Lodge officers, and to share ideas and other information for the benefit of the Craft in general.
Such a meeting was held at Lents Masonic Temple in Portland on Saturday, March 1st. Sitting Worshipful Masters and representatives from various lodges around the Portland Metro area, including our very own WB Valan Primus were in attendance. Other Kenton brothers were also present, namely WB Manase Salema, RWB Blake Presswood (District Deputy of the Grand Master of District no. 4), WB Zack Andrew (sitting JW of Kenton), and WB Dale Palileo (Grand Lecturer).
While RWB Presswood and WB Palileo were in attendance due to their positions in Grand Lodge, WBs Andrew and Primus also had the distinct honor of serving as Junior Grand Deacon and Grand Tyler pro-temporé, respectively.
The day started with light breakfast at 8:00 AM, followed by the Grand Lodge opening in ample form just a few minutes after 9:00 AM. WB Dale Palileo spoke about various topics of importance relating to the ritual and entertained questions and comments from the brethren present.
After a brief respite, the Grand Master spoke about brotherhood and heard from all the sitting Worshipful Masters and District Deputies in attendance, to which our very own WB Primus spoke about the Kenton culture, the lodge’s goals for this year and various particulars. His words were consistent with the words of WB Kevin Conley, Worshipful Master of our sister lodge Friendship Masonic no. 160 as well as the words of RWB Adam Bayer, our District Deputy with regards to the state of the lodges that meet at Kenton Temple.
To round out the event, RWB Richard Varner (Senior Grand Warden) briefly spoke about the various charitable programs that the Grand Lodge has made available to all Oregon Masons and to the public.
Other Grand Lodge events of note for this month are the upcoming Masonic Day of Training on the 22nd and another Occasional Grand Lodge in Bend on the 29th.
