Last night, Kenton’s business district was full of families dressed in their Halloween costumes to take part of the neighborhood’s annual Halloween celebrations. While the streets were filled with happy revelers–kids and adults alike–as well as business owners passing out candies and treats, the lodge was dark, cold, and silent; an entirely different world from the hustle and bustle of the profani just outside its walls.
And it was by design, as the lodge prepared to confer the Sublime Degree of Master Mason upon Brother Matthew “MJ” Gold.
The evening started with a Fellowcraft proficiency examination for Brother Gold, which he passed to the delight of the brethren present.
Immediately after the successful examination, the brethren then conferred the Master Mason Degree upon Brother Gold. Despite the absence of four brothers in key roles, the several brethren rose to the occasion by performing roles either for the first time, or for the first time in a long while. The result was a strong rendition of the degree that was worthy of Brother Gold’s efforts in learning his proficiency requirements.
The brethren also formally recognized RWB Brian Musicar, Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of Illinois. A familiar face at Kenton whenever he’s in town, RWB Musicar was honored by the brethren by granting him “honorary membership” status. He returned the honor by reciting the “graveside” prayer as well as giving Brother Gold the Master Mason’s charge.
The brethren now look forward to its November stated meeting where honored Brother Michael Milford is expected to be elected as Worshipful Master for 2026.
